According to “Development Beijing,” the Beijing Times Battery Base project recently passed acceptance.
Located in the southern area of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, the project has a total investment of approximately RMB 3.9 billion and covers an area of about 260,000 square meters. It includes production plants and related supporting facilities, as well as internationally advanced intelligent manufacturing equipment for new energy batteries. The project will also feature CATL’s latest independently developed new energy battery super production line. Once fully operational, it will have an annual power battery production capacity of 15 GWh, significantly enhancing product competitiveness and cost advantages for automakers in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, including BAIC and Xiaomi.
The Beijing Times Battery Base project represents an important strategic move by CATL in North China.
In May 2024, CATL, BAIC Hailanxin, Jingneng Technology, and Xiaomi Auto jointly established Beijing Times Power Battery Co., Ltd. with a registered capital of RMB 1 billion. CATL holds a 51% stake and is responsible for the construction and operation of the Beijing plant, while BAIC Hailanxin holds 39%, and Jingneng Technology and Xiaomi Auto each hold 5%.
In June 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the CATL-controlled Beijing Times Battery Base project was held in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. As CATL’s first battery plant in North China, the project is being constructed in two phases and is scheduled to begin production in 2026, supplying new energy vehicle manufacturers including BAIC, Xiaomi Auto, and Li Auto.
Now, two years later, this key CATL market hub in northern China has reached a major milestone.
According to the plan, the project is expected to complete construction and begin full production within this year. Once completed, it will further strengthen Beijing’s power battery sector and improve the new energy intelligent vehicle industry chain. The project will also enable CATL to provide nearby supplies to leading new energy vehicle manufacturers such as BAIC New Energy and Xiaomi Auto, while serving the wider Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and surrounding areas, meeting battery demand from other automakers and expanding its market coverage.
In addition to the battery base, CATL is also expanding its charging and battery swapping business in Beijing to strengthen coordination across the industrial chain.
In August 2025, CATL established Times Qiji New Energy Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. in Beijing through one of its subsidiaries, with a registered capital of RMB 20 million. CATL plans to build and operate more than 100 battery swapping stations in Beijing by 2026, with key areas targeted to achieve battery swapping coverage within a 10-minute reach.
In January this year, CATL further upgraded its strategic presence in Beijing by officially establishing a wholly owned subsidiary, CATL (Beijing) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. With a registered capital of RMB 10 million, the company’s business scope covers emerging energy technology R&D, battery sales, information technology consulting, and import and export trade. The move is expected to strengthen localized service capabilities and support the development of battery swapping networks and zero-carbon smart logistics.
The synergy created by CATL’s combined deployment of battery plants and battery swapping stations will not only help ensure battery supply for local automakers, but also accelerate the implementation of its battery swapping business and improve overall asset turnover efficiency.
